Project description
In the wake of the significant migration to Europe in 2015, there was also a large influx of young refugees. For these youths, as well as those with a migrant background, pursuing an apprenticeship is often challenging due to various barriers. Language barriers are a major obstacle, but the educational backgrounds of these young people are also frequently not comparable to those in their European host countries. This discrepancy arises because academic curricula, teaching methods, and the duration of education differ significantly between their home countries and Europe. Additionally, cultural differences that influence social behavior can negatively impact the success of an apprenticeship, from the initial stages to graduation.
Another issue is the lack of awareness about professional opportunities and the requirements of the workplace. This, combined with the skepticism of training companies about whether these young people can meet the demands of an apprenticeship, often leads to negative responses to candidates, even in the face of labor shortages or the early termination of apprenticeships.
Furthermore, many young people who do manage to secure an apprenticeship are not given the opportunity to participate in vocational preparation or support measures, which are crucial for their success.
